Hi, I’m Tamara.
I moved to England in 2020 with my family in tow — mid-pandemic, no less — from Tacoma, Washington. I’ve been a nurse since 2006, working everywhere from small rural hospitals to Level II trauma centers. The bulk of my career has been spent in the Emergency Department, and in the five years prior to our move, I also worked as a critical care transport nurse.
We moved to England to experience socialized medicine firsthand, and I plan to document that journey here. I hope to learn from my time within a different healthcare system and take that knowledge back home to improve my nursing practice and contribute to broader conversations about how we care for one another.
Nursing is my calling — but it is not my whole life. I also define myself as a mother, wife, writer, explorer, Mexican American, runner, humanitarian, and lifelong idealist.
Now I’d love to hear from you.
What’s your story? If you had to describe yourself using just a handful of words or titles, which ones would you choose?
